No - the video has to be publicly viewable without logging in. If an account is private, Instagram blocks outside access to it entirely, so there's no way for any tool to read it.

Instagram limits automated access more aggressively than TikTok or YouTube, so it occasionally blocks the request outright. If that happens, try again in a moment, or check whether the same recipe was also posted to TikTok or YouTube.

Does it work if the recipe is only shown as on-screen text, not spoken?

Yes - the AI reads on-screen text overlays as well as listening to narration, so text-only Reels usually still work.
